Our first Christmas with Rachel, 1979, but it's not clear who's house; perhaps Mark and Beck, Preston MN.
A couple of notes:
This is a scan of a snapshot that's 45 years old, and not very good coloring even then.
It is (unfortunately) obvious throughout our archive that the second child is shorted on pictures
Christmas in 2015 at Perry Lutheran, Daleyville WI.
Almost one year into isolation, in December 2020, we had time to make a video card:
Over the years, we created several custom cards, and here is ours for Christmas 2021:
Here are a few more winter pictures, including our card from 2006.
Inez joined us for many Christmas Eves
From the year we were married, 50 years ago now, we tried to have Christmas Eve at home. In the years after Rube died, Inez wanted to be with us rather than at her assisted living. So, for several years Mike would get her from Northfield to join us for church, Christmas Eve together, and spend the night with us.
When staying overnight became difficult, we started a challenging relay with tight timing: 1) drive to Northfield and back, for 2) while Jan prepared for dinner together, then 3) church with Jan singing in choir, and 4) at home (hearing the Christmas gospel and presents). The final run was 5) a return drive back to Northfield for a night in her own bed. It was wonderful, and exhausting.
At the Christmas Eve service at Peace in 2007, Inez reconnected with two long-time friends: Marcie Ingvoldstadt (a Peace member) and Emily Halverson (mother of Peace member Marth Knutson). Emily and Inez had grown up as young pastor's wives when they were in Iowa in the 1940s.
